Bombardier Receives Certification for In-Flight System

Bombardier Business Aircraft’s WAVE (Wireless Access Virtually Everywhere) system has been given supplemental certification from Transport Canada.

This system provides in-flight connectivity with Ka-band Wi-Fi services, allowing travelers to use their phones, tablets, and laptops like never before. Users can access high-speed internet, stream videos or sound, and conduct video conference calls.

The WAVE will be immediately available after the approval for new aircraft such as the Global 5000 and Global 6000. Existing customers have the option to install it into their aircraft as well. Certification was granted after the Global aircraft reached the required number of flight hours and went through a series of tests.

“This is an important milestone, as Bombardier is the first business aircraft manufacturer to make ultra-high-speed Wi-Fi services available inflight globally and the first to offer performance commitments for network availability and speed,”

said Chief Operating Officer of Bombardier Business Aircraft Paul Sislian.

Officials at Bombardier have mentioned that connectivity capabilities inside the cabin is the number one concern for most of their customers. It makes sense, especially for business aircraft, that flyers are going to need the Internet to be fully operation while traveling. Jet ConneX’s satellites are a big part of this, as they will ensure the user is getting the best experience possible.

The WAVE will also use technology from Honeywell Aerospace – their JetWave hardware. This technology combats any sort of turbulence that may affect the reception and connection of mobile devices. Drastic altitudes, speeds, angles, as well as rough weather will be accounted for thanks to JetWave.

“This is a game-changing moment for business aviation as passengers will now be able to consistently stay connected to fast and consistent Wi-Fi even when they are flying over water on long-haul flights,”

added Kristin Slyker, Vice President of Business and General Aviation at Honeywell Aerospace.
